Noah Is 5 Months Old!!! (+ 6 days...)

And guess what he got for his 5 month birthday? GREEN BEANS! :-) He wasn't so thrilled about it...

"I don't know about this..."

Video of Noah eating his very first green beans.

Later as I was cleaning Noah's room and putting his clothes away, I set him on his big teddy bear and Kona was really excited to come say hi!

Beginning to be best buds.

Comfy Noah on the big bear.

I wanted to try and put these two pictures side by side, but I couldn't figure it out. But it's crazy what a difference 3 months make!!

So, the solid food thing is going pretty good so far. There are so many different opinions on what to do first, what time of day, how much, etc....I was wondering if any of you moms had any advice on the whole solid food thing? We started with rice cereal (which he loved), then proceeded to green beans (which he did NOT love) and just yesterday we tried bananas (which surprisingly he didn't like much either).

Some say start with sweet (fruit or sweet potatoes) because it's most similar to breastmilk; others say start with veggies because it might be harder to get them to accept them later. I had no idea so we just went for it! We would try a couple spoonfuls first of the green beans or bananas, until he just wouldn't take it. I was then successful adding it to his rice cereal, so that's what we're doing now. Any advice??

Noah's First Rice Cereal

Oh my, our baby is growing up so fast! Like I mentioned on the last post, we were going to try and postpone solid foods to as close to 6 months as we could...but I think Noah had different ideas. He was getting so interested in food, cups, etc., I couldn't even take a sip of water while I was nursing him without him being completely distracted and stopping eating to watch me drink! So we decided to introduce some rice cereal, and our suspicions of him being ready to eat were confirmend when he wolfed down the whole bowl (only 1 tbsp of cereal and a few tbsps of milk, but still!) So we have officially entered a very fun stage of high chairs, plastic spoons, and very messy faces with our little boy...good times. :-) Enjoy the pics and kind of long video.

"I'm ready to eat Mommy!"

"Mmmm..."

"I want to help!"

Four Years Ago...

...we were on our honeymoon in Tahiti!!!

Our wedding day!

In beautiful Tahiti...

My how the time flies! Four years ago, October 1st, I married the man of my dreams. We have had an amazing four years, ups and downs, getting my nursing degree, going on many amazing vacations, camping and backpacking trips, and most recently - having a baby! We had a great time last Thursday going out to dinner at Tapa the World (a great tapas restaurant downtown) to celebrate an awesome first four years, while my mom came over and watched Noah. While we have left Noah a few times to go to bible study on Wednesday nights, this was our first "official" date night out!! (And I did okay! :-))

Getting ready to leave for dinner.

Andy enjoying an olive...they were really good assorted olives, and balsamic olive oil dipping sauce for bread...we are total foodies :-)

Andy stopping to pose while enjoying his fried potatoes.

Really yummy sangria!

Assorted roasted vegetables with manchego cheese on the left, mussels on the top and kobe beef with blue cheese on the right (what's left of it...)

And dessert...chocolate strawberry addiction (with pistachios, walnuts and chocolate mousse) and vanilla bean flan.

Andy very focused...:-)

A couple of months ago we were talking about what we wanted to do for our anniversary...we talked about maybe going camping. Then we decided we wanted an "off" weekend, where basically we stay in our jammies, rent some movies, make really good food, veg out and enjoy each other's company! It's crazy how simple this sounds, but as busy as life can get (especially now!), we really need to schedule these days in! So we slept in and made really good breakfast of "puffed pancake" and watched movies! Noah and Kona seemed to enjoy the "down day" too.

Scrambled eggs, bacon and puffed pancake.

Andy about to enjoy his coffee, mimosa and breakfast!

Mmmm....

RANDOM NOAH PICS AND VIDEOS

These are some random pictures taken between the last post and now...Noah is getting very talented in his rolling skills. So much so that he can no longer lay on our bed...long story but thank GOD he is okay from his very first tumble (unfortunately probably the first of many...). I think he actually recovered faster than I did...I am still recovering!

About 15 seconds before this picture was taken, Noah was laying on his mat on the left on his back. I turned my back and as soon as I looked at him, he was almost at the sliding glass door!! Like I was saying...very talented rolling skills...can't take my eye off this kid! :-)

He seemed pretty proud of what he accomplished...:-)

He is also getting a lot more focused on grabbing what he wants, and more skilled with his hand-eye coordination. He decided he wanted to grab the hanging turtle that was behind him...too cute!

Close up of his determination

Noah laying on his new blanket that Anne, a friend from church, made for him...this thing is huge and fluffy and awesome to take places for Noah to lay on!

Oh, and Kona likes it too! :-)

Noah getting very strong!

Like father, like son with their cute big grins! Noah in an outfit from his Great Aunt's Kathy and Debbie, and cousin Chris! It has cute little fox feet that Noah loves to play with.

After Noah was finished nursing in the boppy one night, he fell asleep, so I transferred him and the boppy to the floor...where he looked too cute continuing to sleep...

A video of Noah kicking like an airplane on his new blanket.

Noah playing in his bouncy seat.

Noah playing with his toes on the couch.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

Yesterday we went to Elk Grove's annual Harvest Festival. It was a lot of fun walking around looking at the big pumpkins, seeing all the little kid games while thinking of how much fun it will be to take Noah when he's bigger. He had fun seeing pumpkins for the first time! These were all pictures taken in the little pumpkin patch.

Our cute little pumpkin sitting in a barrel.

Another update: Noah slept in his crib for the first time last night! We decided it was time...he was going to sleep before us and we would sometimes wake him up when we came in to get ready for bed when he was in his cradle. He did pretty good, woke up at 4:30 this morning, ate, and then went back to sleep. Our big boy is growing up so fast! We are talking about starting him on some rice cereal. We wanted to wait a little longer, but it seems he is really showing signs that he is ready to eat. So, I'll for sure be posting some pictures and video of that when that happens!! Hope you all have a great week!
